Natural soap & shampoo bars Made with home grown and foraged herbs, organic plant oils and butters, and pure essential oils

What we do

Today, experimentation with plants has led to small scale production of a range of soaps that are dermatologically tested, EU & UK certified and available to purchase.

All the soaps are handmade in the Herbernaculum studio

The soaps are each made, cut, and wrapped in small batches. They contain herbs from the organic farm and woodland or from our organic physic herb garden. Seasonal herbs are gathered and dried for use in the soaps and other preparations. Sourcing and growing the herbs, as well as an ethos of conservation and considered consumption, are vital to the making process.

Working with the seasons, I think carefully about each recipe, layering each of the ingredients and creatively reflecting the therapeutic properties of the herbs with the essential oils that compliment their personalities as plants. The beneficial combinations of the pure natural essential oils contribute their own rich therapy. The natural colour and aroma of each soap creates a unique identity from which I find a name.

Eg. ‘Chamomile Infusion’
This soap is composed with the classics. Within this soap the gentle natural emollient base oils and butters smooth and cleanse the skin. These are combined with a Chamomile herbal infusion to calm and restore. Cedarwood, Lavender and Geranium pure essential oils add their own therapeutic contribution to the soothing properties of this soap whilst imparting a familiar and peaceful fragrance.

Ancient heritage in traditional communities

Inspired by the people I’ve met, my interest in local plants, from their folk history to medicinal properties, now informs my experimentation with herbs and their conservation.

Considered Consumption

The East Coast’s unique Rivers, Estuaries and Swatchways are deep-rooted within East Anglian community heritage. They are also the life-blood of so many diverse ecosystems. Using natural, sustainable products and biodegradable packaging is an easy way that we can help to preserve and protect these environments

Caring for your Soap

Traditionally, before synthetic detergents were manufactured, care of soap was paramount as it was recognised as a finite resource. Cottage industries created soaps to be looked after carefully within households. We knew to keep it dry and away from direct light and recognised that soap is a natural product. This means it will also naturally deteriorate.

As a child the family soap bar was kept in the airing cupboard when not being used.

Herbernaculum soap is packed with love and with high quality raw ingredients - don’t waste it! Enjoy it.
