with a focus on being outside you’re welcomed To identify and interact with natural plant habitats. You will gain the confidence and understanding of trees and plants. The workshops are designed to explore their many applications both practically and within historical and folk tradition.
Take a look at the ‘events’ calendar for details of seasonal activities.
We’ll look at various plants which all have varying key characteristics, including those that may be used to boost vitality, promote sleep and relaxation, or even be used as fire tinder or charcoal for instance. You will be amazed at the wealth and potential of plant diversity within your locality. The aim is to introduce you to various preparations for home use, exploring practical methods and recipes. For example herbal tea infusions, floral waters, unguent balms, carving sticks & staffs, creating fire bowls, and learning to use hand tools for green wood work.
Sarah passionately cultivates her own organic, herb physic garden and the harvested produce is integrated within the activities including many examples of different ways of preparing herbs. The events share her personal experience of gardening and foraging.
The Events are broadly described below and bookable via ‘events listings’:
Woodlanding
WOODLANDING presentS an opportunity to explore the local landscape and to spend time making and exploring. The woodland site is a welcoming haven, promoting fresh experience & thought.
Woodlanding events are themed and seasonally informative, drawing on the trees, plants, fungi and lichen as appropriate. During the day we identify local herbs which form part of the herbal remedies and edibles created back at the campfire area.
These events will be evenly spread between walking and practical preparations. Through out the day you will learn specific wood and crafting techniques as described for each event. The whole experience is curated for each individual to maximise the very personal benefits of being immersed in the woodland surrounds.
We all meet at a designated area close to parking facilities at the farm. Once gathered we walk along a winding trail deep into the woodland where camp is set up and begin with an introduction to the plants, trees and activities which will be the focus for the day.
Herb Workshops
We offer a variety of workshops on a regular basis.
This is your opportunity to spend time with and gather plants and herbs for recipes and remedies for home use on site and to take home. From floral waters through lip and massage balms to seed saving and plant sharing. All equipment and materials will be provided and the emphasis will be on the methods, application, understanding and discussion of the ingredients being used. The focus is always about the enjoyment and celebration of the magical potential of plants and of discovering the benefits they can lend our everyday lives. Throughout the workshops there is an emphasis on understanding the sourcing, growing and identifying of plants and materials. We also have an embedded ethos of considered consumption. Many of the workshop events are based outside gathered around the fire or using the facilities at the Woodlanding site on the farm. Whenever the workshops are based predominantly in the Studio there will be a clear description of the space and provision for each event.
Walks
introducing you to local flora, trees & herbs
Offering a powerful pause in life for a very gentle meander exploring the natural plant life around you. We take the time to really observe what is discovered along the way. Usually incorporated within each event our walks enable you to relax and breathe in the air from the trees, wildflowers, plants and habitats encountered. Where appropriate it’s always great to forage along the way. There will be help for you to identify the plants and understand where and when to find them. When we gather plants along the way they are included within recipes, remedy making and teas.
