What to expect
Join our Spring workshop in the forest creating traditional Birch Besom Brooms
This is a seasonal woodland based workshop focusing on creativity and seasonal experimentation. You will be guided through the craft of creating a traditional besom broom, and learn the properties and folklore of birch and other woodland trees. The process of creating your own natural broom or brush is an individual and creative experience. We will select the timber you connect with and create a hand carved staff for the broom handle. There will be whittling tools and tuition in mark making with knives to create patterns on the wooden handles to leave your own impressions to personalise your pieces of work. The end results will be both decorative and practical, and of course totally biodegradable.
We will gather herbs to make lunchtime preparations and gather around the campfire to share a warming homemade soup and bread.
With a focus on habitat awareness, these small groups are carefully curated. You’ll be immersed within this pristine area of natural beauty with lofty Douglas firs, a spiritual Yew grove, elderly Larch trees, established Elms, ancient coppices of Sweet Chestnut and Hazel, characterful Oaks, fungi & lichen, tranquil birdlife, and the beloved homes of many woodland creatures.
